THE BASICS

24 Beat is the form which traditionally introduces the T'ien Shan P'ai system of Kung Fu. Grandmaster Lin's teacher, Wang, Jyue Jen always taught this form first, because he felt it was clear, concise, and filled with all good techniques for both defense and offense.

The Primary Fist form originated in the 1930's in Mainland China. At that time, the government of China (the KMT) wanted a form which could be issued to train their young men in the basic principles of defense, and which could also be used for health, and for sport. The Federal Martial Arts Academy in Nanjing has always been credited with creating and diseminating this form, which they called "Youth Form". Most likely, Wang, Jyue Jen, learned this form when he was a young man in Mainland China.

40 Beat is the second basic form taught in T'ien Shan P'ai. In this DVD, Grandmaster Lin teaches this traditional exercise exactly the way he learned it from his own teacher, Wang, Jyue Jin, back in the 1950’s.

This DVD features both Grandmaster Lin, and his Disciple, Master Dennis Brown. It includes detailed instruction, as well as demonstrations of 40-Beat, as both a single person exercise, and as a two person set.

In the first form of the T’ien Shan P’ai system, (24-Beat: Primary Fist), the student learns to move in straight lines… forward and backward. In 40-Beat, the student learns to control his movements, as well as his techniques, while turning, and changing directions.

Shao-Lin Form & Kick Combinations are the last two parts of basic T'ien Shan P'ai training.

The Shao-Lin is a single person exercise, which focuses on the development of timing, and eye-hand co-ordination. The Kick Combinations portion of this DVD teaches how the kicks and sweeps of the T'ien Shan Pai system are incorporated into a comprehensive exercise.

Ba-Chi, or "eight boxing movements", is an intermediate-level empty hand T'ien Shan P'ai exercise. Grandmaster Lin teaches this form to develop power, external strength and control over attacks from all directions. Grandmaster Lin stands in the center of a "virtual circle," and demonstrates how to direct responses outward... toward the four compass points and their halves.

Tu-Chi is a fast-paced intermediate-level empty hand two person set. It emphasizes enhanced kicking skills, coordination and timing. Grandmaster Lin teaches and performs this exercise with Master Frank Marrero

THE WEAPONS

Straight Sword — The 1 and 2 Person Set provides a comprehensive introduction to, and examination of "San Tsai Jien", as both a single person, then as a two person exercise. This sword form, basic to the Tien Shan Pai curriculum, can also trace it's origins to Mainland China in the 1930's, and the Federal Martial Arts Academy in Nanjing... an institution which was run by the then government of China (the KMT.)
